Explanation of Dedicated Servers
When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three basic varieties - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web servers host plenty of customers and so the system resources per web hosting account are restricted, virtual private servers give you more server configuration liberty, but also influence other virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the possibility to perform everything you think fit without meddling with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated servers?
Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared web servers or private virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your firm has a heavy-traffic site, or just has very exact web server architecture requirements, the wisest option is a dedicated servers. For someone who is willing to invest in safety and reliability, the bigger price is not a problem. You are bestowed with complete server root access and can use 100 percent of the dedicated web server's resources without anyone else using these resources and interfering with your web portals.
Hardware architectures
Most web hosting firms, incl. us at 3rd World Hosting, provide several different hardware configurations you can select from according to your demands. The hardware configurations offer different kinds of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk drive sizes and different bandwidth usage quotas. You can choose a hosting CP, which is a convenient GUI if you want to utilize the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use SSH for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The Control Panel of your preference
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers through a Secure Shell tunnel only. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you choose to grant full root privileges to somebody else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is a bright idea. The Hepsia hosting CP interface that we offer does not give you complete server root access and is mostly suitable for somebody who runs a lot of web portals that absorb plenty of resources, but prefers to administer the sites, databases and e-mail addresses via a user-friendly web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full server root access and include 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting accounts rather than utilizing the dedicated servers just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup services
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is good to have some kind of monitoring platform activated. Here at 3rd World Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also a bonus option - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a type of RAID that would permit you to have the same data on two server hard disk drives as a precaution in case of a server disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given root-level access erases something by accident.
